How to Add the Same Tag to 1,000 Shopify Products Without Clicking Each One

Tagging products in bulk is one of those tasks that sounds simple and takes forever. Here's the fast way.

Tags in Shopify are powerful — they drive smart collections, customer segmentation, discount rules, and third-party app logic. But adding or removing a tag from hundreds of products is a click-heavy process that the default admin makes unnecessarily painful.

The default approach

Shopify's bulk editor lets you select multiple products and edit fields — but tags require you to type them individually for each row. There's no "add this tag to all selected products" button. You end up either doing it one by one or exporting to CSV and re-importing.

With Claude: one sentence

Connect your store with Claude MCP Connector and just say:

"Add the tag 'summer-2026' to all products in the Summer collection."

Or:

"Remove the tag 'on-sale' from all products that currently have it."

Claude handles the bulk operation and confirms how many products were updated.

Common bulk tag scenarios

  • Add a seasonal tag to a whole collection before a campaign
  • Remove a sale tag from all products after the promotion ends
  • Tag all products from a specific vendor for filtering
  • Add "featured" to your top 20 best-selling products
  • Tag all products under $25 for a gift-guide collection

Tags unlock automation

Once products are correctly tagged, your smart collections, discount rules, and any apps that use tags all update automatically. A 30-second tagging operation with Claude can trigger changes across your entire store setup.
